<li>People don&#8217;t mind being unemployed as much if they have <a href="http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/01/unemployed-and-o-k-with-it-if-theyre-not-alone/">unemployed friends</a> (This isn&#8217;t surprising&#8211;you see it with obesity, too). However, this makes them less likely to look for another job (or attempt to lose weight).</li>
<li>John McIntyre, whom I perpetually confuse with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McEnroe">John McEnroe</a>, is <a href="http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/mcintyre/blog/2010/06/summertiiiiime.html">back  at the <em>Sun</em></a>: &#8220;&#8216;My father,&#8217; she said, looking me up and down, &#8216;wore a seersucker suit  and a boater in the summertime too.&#8217; [Pause.] &#8216;Of course, he was born in  1898.&#8217;&#8221;</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the <em>NYT Magazine</em>, the New York-via-Cincinnati band <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/25/magazine/25national-t.html?ref=magazine&amp;pagewanted=all">The National<em></em> gets profiled</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>The National had decided, in the end, to call their record “High  Violet,” a phrase inspired by a religious tract Matt discovered in a  secondhand Seattle bookshop. “None of it makes any sense,” Matt said,  flipping the pages. “It’s all so crazy, but it seems so important.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Until the 27th, you can stream the album on <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/25/magazine/25national-t.html">the NYT site</a>. I highly recommend it.</p>
