Dec 0820. Hot Chip – Made in the Dark
Yet another album I absolutely did not want to include on this list. I listened to it once when it came out and was immediately put off by the band’s incessant need to put something irritating in most of their uptempo songs (except “Ready for the Floor”, which is also one of my favorite music videos this year). “Shake a Fist,” as far as I was concerned, was ruined by their dicking around. I pretty much ignored it, unless I was asked about it (I said it kind of sucked). Then I listened to the album in preparation for this list and…well…nuts. I like it. I even kinda dig some of the annoying parts of “Shake a Fist”, and the slower songs at the end? Turns out they’re not boring when I’m not cranky.
