If I wore watches, I would want this. I still might, in fact. (Via Giz)
After a full night’s sleep, I won’t might not buy an iPhone 4. Although it has a gorgeous screen, 720p video+iMovie, and better battery life (this is arguably the most important thing), it has several major issues:
- No 4G. This is kind of a bummer, but it gives Apple an easy upgrade for next year (and AT&T probably won’t have a 4G network ready this year anyway). I suspect that the “iPhone 4″ name is designed to imply 4G, despite the fact it only supports HSPA+.
- Network. This could really be 1a, but AT&T has not done a great job maintaining a usable network thus far, and no one knows how well they’ll do with this new one (though their WiFi hotspots are a good start).
- Cost. As in, $200/300 for the 16/32GB versions, which is a lot, given that iPhone plans are already expensive. Plus, that $300 phone still comes with a new two-year contract, which brings us to…
- AT&T’s pushing people to re-up early. You could argue that this beneficence is in their interest, no matter what (hooking you for another two years, by which time 4G networks will be widespread)–or you could be Giz and fan conspiracy theory flames by implying Verizon will get the iPhone in the next six months, instead of 2012 (when the world will be ending anyway).
Anyway, I’ll probably change my mind about this at least 100 times in the next two weeks.
