2009 Week 9 NFL picks.

Well, I went an unfortunate 1-2 in my picks last week. However, I was only convinced of one thing: the Bills suck. As a result, I bet big on the Texans, which made up for my other two picks falling flat on their faces. Onward!

Baltimore Ravens -3 at Cincinnati Bengals
The Ravens would have won the last game, but for two drive-extending penalties on their defense. This is actually a pretty concerning issue that goes back a ways–remember the meltdown against the Patriots, during which Bart Scott threw an official’s flag into the stands (40sec into this video)? Furthermore, there is absolutely no reason Frank Walker should be playing defense in the NFL, and no excuse for his continued employment.

Anyway, the Ravens should take this one, since the Bengals haven’t rushed the passer well without Odom, and their offense has been hot-and-cold this season.

Arizona Cardinals +3 at Chicago Bears
Arizona is currently 12th in the league in FO’s DVOA ranking; Chicago is 23rd. Orlando Pace is no longer Orlando Pace, and Kyle Orton looks more like Jay Cutler than Jay Cutler does. Except last week.

Teaser: Green Bay Packers -4 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers + Carolina Panthers +7 at New Orleans Saints
Yep, another teaser. Both teams could probably cover their spreads easily, but Carolina’s running game is good, and New Orleans’ run defense is bad.

Hot wings -24 at my stomach
The last few weeks, I’ve been eating relatively healthy game-time food, but this week? It’s on.
