Happy 2011, everyone.

  1. Rich people are less empathetic.
  2. Stay safe on open WiFi networks.
  3. MIA’s unfortunate naming convention continues with the ViCKi LEEKX mixtape.
  4. End the drug war, end the “black problem“? Worth a read.

To the end of time:

  1. Another @BrendanKoerner link: a motorcycle trip across Transylvania.
  2. Turns out McDonald’s burgers don’t rot, but neither do homemade ones.
  3. Four new Atlas Sound demo albums music wads.

Killer bees on the swarm:

  1. Full-body scanners are fucking stupid. No one likes them; not pilots, not security experts, and especially not small-donged TSA employees and the sexually assaulted passengers1 whose images they save. Plus, they (still) don’t work.
  2. The Washington Independent‘s down for the count. However, a lot of their reporters have graduated to bigger things, and continue to do great work.
  3. Girl Talk’s new LP, All Day, is pretty outstanding, and as always, it’s free.
  4. In Florida foreclosures, banks have gotten the courts to help with their legally shaky foreclosures–at a rate of up to 25 cases per hour.
  1. Not hyperbole.

Five for Friday, Sept. 4.

  1. It’s been floating around the blogosphere, but this NYer article about Cameron Todd Willingham’s execution after being conviced of arson and murder is a monster. Read it.
  2. I joined a fantasy football league. My goal is to not finish dead last.
  3. If you haven’t read it yet, point your RSS reader at the Best of Wikipedia.
  4. If you use Google Reader, may I suggest replacing its screenful of bag-over-the-head-ugly with Helvetireader? For Gcal fans, Helvitical provides similar serif-free sexiness. (Firefoxers will need Greasemonkey)
  5. I need some more reading recommendations. Fiction, this time.

You know who else is on Twitter?

It’s no secret that I have a mega-crush on St. Vincent, AKA Annie Clark, so it’s pretty cool that she finally has a new album coming out. And here’s the first single, “The Strangers”, announced on Twitter (and now Pitchfork).
