Acid Pimps Pocketknife Say, “Talons, Dear.”

Some free music goodness to get you through the day.

  • Jenny Lewis’ upcoming album Acid Tongue is up, complete and streaming on her Myspace page.
  • Discobelle’s newest “Mixin’ it up,” by Mustard Pimps, is pretty awesome.
  • So is Pocketknife’s mix for Fairtilizer. More electric guitar, less synth.
  • I missed them the first time around, but I came across Takka Takka’s “Everybody say” (direct MP3) while checking out old MFR posts. And now I have another band to check out.
  • [Update] Bloc Party is streaming “Talons,” the single from their new album Intimacy, on their Myspace. It kind of sucks. HT: Pitchfork
  • I mentioned this a while ago, but TV on the Radio has a few tracks from their upcoming LP Dear Science on their site.

Do the dance.

Duke Dumont’s Fabric Live set. A little ravey, but it’s still pretty good. And free.

HT to Discobelle.

Mini mixtape grab bag.

  1. The Mixtape About Nothing,” by DC rapper Wale, is outstanding, one of the year’s better releases. Seinfeld-themed, intelligent rap with a drop by Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Elaine).
  2. Top Ranking,” by Santogold and Diplo, is not at all the “Piracy Funds Terrorism” ripoff a lot of cynics expected–it’s legitimately good, and Diplo’s production rescues some the miscues Santogold made on her full-length.
  3. We Make it Good, Vol. 4,” by XXXChange (of Spank Rock sorta-fame). Isaac Hayes, the Stones, Curtis Mayfield, Peter Gabriel and a lot more make this more than just a summer throwaway, though it is a lot of fun. You can almost hear the beers cracking open.

There are a lot more I haven’t gotten around to listening to yet, but let me know if you have any favorites I missed.
